Is the ‘Dark’ the Latest Spiritual Fad?

As balance always tries to find itself, the pendulum swung and it’s not surprising that Dark made a return.

Collectively, we humans today are now recognizing the need to reintegrate the Dark.

The alternative spiritual community began to find the yin sacredness of death, decay, and density.

In just a few years, the ‘Dark’ is now everywhere in the alternative spiritual world. Becoming something of a craze, is the ‘Dark’ edging on becoming the latest spiritual fad?

Many teachers who perhaps once polarized to Love and Light are now gravitating to the Dark. Many seem to have lingered in the Dark and, for some, literally set up shop (brand included).

While reclaiming the Dark is essential for wholeness, it’s important to remember that staying polarised in the Dark could be an obstruction for a person moving towards Total Integration.

Life force is energy and, like water, energy likes to move. It doesn’t do well if it stays still in one place for too long. Movement is life.

Left right, dark/light, up/down, masculine/feminine, good/bad… There are so many ways to polarize! Polarizing for too long breeds stagnation and leaves you off balance. The key is to have enough awareness and presence to not polarize in any direction, yet to be able to integrate and move in any direction when it is what best serves Love. Sometimes you need a little more darkness, at other times, more light. Sometimes you need to go up, sometimes you need to go down. But always find that place that is centered in Love.

Home is the centre. Home is Love. Home is where you find your ultimate power, pleasure and peace.

Once again we come to semantics. Just as new age philosophers want to redefine the meaning of “sacrifice”, many now want to redefine “dark” as well.

There is something else often mis-attributed to the “Dark” that is beyond duality and everything mentioned here so far. More accurately described as nothingness or void. It is the essence of letting go into the Mystery. It is where we eventually land and live from when we become Fully Integrated. A state of Total Integration.

If you are passionately enjoying and growing in the dark, this is beautiful. Or, perhaps you are passionately enjoying and growing in the light and this too is beautiful. As a being moving toward total integration of ALL, why not welcome the ‘other side’ too? What is the risk? What might you invite in? What might you be losing if you don’t?

The personality certainly loves to have its edges of ‘self’. Embodying the antithesis to our ‘usual’ can be alarming for our sense of identity, especially if our peers respond positively to our presentation. But that’s precisely what makes welcoming ALL polarities so powerful. It gives us the opportunity to go beyond the small “I” and access the I that IS ALL.

This is true not just for light/dark, but for all polarities… This is the path of the Total Integration.
